“Despite vast numbers from projections over the years, many people are still unaware of child identity theft, said Paul Ferron, senior partner and director of business development for LibertyID — an identity theft and restoration service based out of Denver.

No credit history and virtually unused Social Security numbers is what Ferron said makes children the focus of identity thieves. He said child identity theft is able to slip through the cracks because it hasn’t been standard practice for parents to monitor children’s credit scores and other information. After all, young children don’t work, pay bills, etc.”
